Essential Talks of Life

Crucial Life Skills for Children

Why

We need an innovative and efficient tool to deal with the emotional and psychological discomfort felt by many children and young people in Italy. Research shows that one of the most important preventions is the ability to express one’s emotions, with the support of adults. Children who know how to put words on what they feel are better equipped to face difficulties such as bullying, psychological problems, school absence, substance abuse, or a socio-economically vulnerable situation.

What

We have developed the booklet “Chiacchiere Importanti per la Vita”, a practical manual on how to talk with children of 9 to 12 years of age, and inspire their ability to express emotions. A small book, a practical manual, written in a positive and inviting tone, with easy-to-use exercises and advice from psychologists, researchers and therapists. We have an ongoing pilot project in the province of Modena that we are carefully following and guiding.

Who

In close collaboration with the Swedish originators Suicide Zero and Åkestam Holst, an Italian version of a pilot project has been developed together with the local health authorities in the Province of Modena. The pilot project is aligned with a newly drafted Italian law, highlighting the necessity of life skills, such as knowing how to express emotions, in Italian school curriculums.
