School dropout prevention
Through personal inner motivation
Even before the coronavirus hit, Italy had among the worst dropout rates in Europe. But closed schools and online classes have pushed students out in ever higher numbers. School dropout affects young Italians from North to South, and which is laying the foundations for a difficult future for school-age young people. According to data collected by Invalsi (the Italian National Institute for the Evaluation of the Educational and Training System), in 2022 it was estimated that total school dropout, implicit and explicit, is in excess of 20% at a national level. There is a strong need to stimulate the cognitive and emotional capacities of every boy and girl to create a balanced growth that can then allow them to face the challenges and opportunities of life.
The course Changemaker Academy’s objective is to make the students aware of their own abilities, interests, and future goals, and through innovative and experimental awareness and training life skills modules increase the students personal and inner motivation. Inspired and guided by the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) Framework the 35 boys and girls from the IC Falcone Borsellino in Bari were stimulated to find their long term purpose and real selfknowledge. Afuture served as the adviser for the creation and design of the IDGs modules.
Skill@TI, of which Changemaker Academy, is part of, is an initiative financed by Unicredit Foundation fighting early school leaving and educational poverty through preventing measures. It is a two year project implemented in Apulia and Basilicata by Meridia Formazione, including 300 students, aged 13 and 17, from five primary and secondary schools.
